Maths:Statistics Flashcards
How is data collected?
*Using a survey
*An experiment
*Research
*Observation
Primary Data
Data that we collect by ourselves.
Secondary data
Data that has been collected by someone else.
Numerical Data
Data made up of numbers
Categorical Data
Data that doesn’t involve numbers.
What can numerical data be?
Numerical data can be Discrete or Continuous.
What is a discrete data?
Discrete data has gaps between the numbers.Only certain numbers can appear.
What is a continuous data?
Continuous data has no gaps between the numbers.Any numbers can appear.
When do we get continuous data?
*Height
*Weight
*Speed etc.
What are the two types of categorical data?
There are two types of categorical data, nominal and nominal.
If you were asked to name your favorite singer, what data is this ?
This question would be a nominal data.
If you were asked to describe your interest in politics ,the possible answers would range from no interest at all to fanatical(obsessed). What data is this?
This would be an ordinal data.
What does the Mode mean?
This is the number that appears the most. There can be more than one mode or there might be no mode.
What does the Median (Med)mean?
Half of the numbers are below the median and the other half are above it .When there is an odd amount of numbers, one of those numbers is the median.E.g.5,7,10,14,20
10 is the median.
When there is an even amount of numbers ,add the two in the middle and divide by 2 .E.g.5,7,10,14,20,21
Median=10+14=24÷2=12
What does the Mean (X̄)mean?
Add all the numbers then divided by the amount of numbers.
