Maths: Geometry Flashcards
What is a line?
A line goes on forever in both directions.Only one line can be draw through two known points.
How do you name a line?
E.g.AB
What is a line segment?
A line segment is a piece of a line .The line segment from A to B stops at both A and B.
How do you name a line segment?
E.g.[AB]
What is a ray?
A ray is a part of a line that begins at some point and continues forever through another point.
How do you name a ray?
E.g.[AB
What is an axiom?
An axiom is a statement that is always true and does not require a proof becanse it is obvious.
An example of axiom if the point C is on the line segment [AB]
|AC|+|CB|=|AB|
An example of axiom if C is not on [AB]
|AC|+|CB|>|AB|
How do we name an angle?
We name an angle using 3 letters and THE MIDDLE LETTER MUST BE THE VERTEX.
How do we write the size of an angle?
The size of the <PQR is written as :|<PQR|
This is the number of degrees in the angle.
How do you name a reflex angle?
When naming a reflex angle ,you must include the word REFLEX.
E.g.reflex<DBA
D is the vertex,then the two arms B A.
What is a theorem?
A theorem is a fact in geometry that is not usually obvious but we can prove it to be true.
What is a collinear?
A collinear is when it is possible to draw a line that passes through three points.
What happens when three points are not collinear?
If three points are not collinear ,they can be joined to form a triangle.
