Igneous rock

A

Type of rock formed from lava and magma .
Latin for fire
Example:
Basalt:dark grey or black
-extrusive ,cools on the surface.
-Small crystals don’t have time to grow,because they have lots of mica (mineral).
Granite:Speckled grey,black,white,purple.
Intrusive,cools within the crust ,cools slowly.

A

Formed in shallow water
Sandstone layers
Weathering and erosion breaks down rocks into small fragments called ‘sediments’.
