Conflict theory
(based on conflict between groups with more and less power)
Who founded Marxism?
Karl Marx
What is capital?
Any assets (money, machines, factories, ect..) that can be used or invested to make future assets
What is wage-labour?
The pool of workers who do not own the means of their own livelihood so they must find employment provided by the owners of capital
What are the two classes?
Bourgeoisie - ruling class
Proletariat - working class
What is Marxism critical of?
Capitalism
What is class consciousness?
When the working class are aware of their exploitation by the ruling class
What is false consciousness?
When the proletariat are unaware of their exploitation by the bourgeoise
What is Repressive State Apparatus?
Louis Althusser
Institutions that use force to control the population when needed
(Police, Army)
What is Ideological State Apparatus?
