Q

Give three critiques on the study on Chondroitinase ABCI and its effects on axon growth.

A
  • Chondroitinase ABCI has inhibitory effects on CSPGs but also other growth promoting effects (researches recognized the existence of other ChABCI mechanisms)
  • CSPGs bind nonspecifically so not positive exactly what mechanism was effected
  • There are many different ways to inhibit axon growth that still remain when CSPGs are inhibited
  • Results were not all statistically significant
  • Could use better observation methods to yield better results
  • Still need to examine adverse effects of treatment and reasons for ultimate death of rats usually, but not always, due to UTI
  • Ongoing analyses of catheter scar
  • Methods and controls done well and followed previous studies
