inhibits an ECM proteogylcan
4
Q
Which is true regarding axon growth and CSPGs?
A
Axon growth can be stimulated via alternative pathways
5
Q
Give three critiques on the study on Chondroitinase ABCI and its effects on axon growth.
A
- Chondroitinase ABCI has inhibitory effects on CSPGs but also other growth promoting effects (researches recognized the existence of other ChABCI mechanisms)
- CSPGs bind nonspecifically so not positive exactly what mechanism was effected
- There are many different ways to inhibit axon growth that still remain when CSPGs are inhibited
- Results were not all statistically significant
- Could use better observation methods to yield better results
- Still need to examine adverse effects of treatment and reasons for ultimate death of rats usually, but not always, due to UTI
- Ongoing analyses of catheter scar
- Methods and controls done well and followed previous studies
