Q

Why might the protection of mitochondria be beneficial to patients with multiple sclerosis?

A

Mitochondria play a significant role in the CNS, as well as axons. They are important to basic cell function and their essential to the energy demands of axons. In MS, the disturbance of mitochondria could lead to problems with the restoration of myelin. If we could protect them, mitochondria could be helpful in completely reversing the effects of demyelination.
