Q

What is PSLV?

A
  • indigenously-developed expendable launch system of the ISRO.
  • can reach upto Geo Synchronous Transfer Orbit, Lower Earth Orbit, and Polar Sun Synchronous Orbit.
  • all it’s operations are controlled from the Satish Dhawan Space Center, Sriharikota

Q

PSLV v/s GSLV

A
  • PSLV was developed to launch low-Earth Orbit satellites into polar and sun synchronous orbitS
  • GSLV was developed to launch the heavier INSAT class of geosynchronous satellites into orbit. In its third and final stage, GSLV uses the indigenously developed cryogenic upper stage.

Q

What is a geosynchronous orbit?

A

In a geosynchronous orbit, a satellite orbits Earth at the same speed as the planet is turning, enabling it to stay in place over a single location i.e.is in sync with earth hence geosynchronous
