About Baikal- GVD?

A
  • one of the three largest neutrino detectors in the world along with the IceCube at the South Pole and ANTARES in the Mediterranean Sea.
  • to study in detail the elusive fundamental particles called neutrinos

Q

What are neutrinos?

A
  • second most widely occurring particle in the universe, after photons
  • so abundant among us that every second, there are more than 100 trillion of them passing right through each of us

Q

Properties of neutrinos?

A
  • Fundamental : Can’t be broken in smaller bits
  • abundant
  • elusive : hard to cath
  • Oscillating : Neutrinos have 3 types AKA flavours i.e. electron neutrinos, muon neutrinoes, tau neutrinoes -> ani pratyek neutrino ya tighanmadhe firat rahato,i.e. flavour change karat rahato.
  • Lightweight & superfast

Diverse : They are produced by nuclear reactions in sun, particle decays in earth, explosions of stars & in nuclear power plants.

Mysterious : their is possibility of existence of 4th neutrino ; scientists also believe that neutrinos can be their own antiparticles i.e. opposites.
