March 15 test 2 Flashcards
Pyrimidine analog antimetabolite that interferes with DNA and RNA synthesis and is used for colon and pancreatic cancers?
5-Fluorouracil–analog of thymine (DNA) and uracil (RNA)
What is the MOA of methamphetamine?
Causes release of DA and NE which cause reinforcing effects and increased BP/HR, respectively
What drugs are commonly associated with hyperprolactinemia–causing amenorrhea, galactorrhea, and gynecomastia?
Haloperidol
Fluphenazine
Risperidone
What are the presenting symptoms of serum sickness reaction and what is the tx?
Fever, pruritus and arthropathy
Tx: antihistamines and corticosteroids
What is the MOA of cyclosporine?
Complexes with cyclophilin and inhibits calcineurin–which decreases the production of IL-2
What 2 B-blockers are CI in angina and HF due to their intrinsic sympathomimetic activity and do not cause significant decrease in HR and maintains a high myocardial O2 consumption?
Pindolol and Acebutolol–have partial agonist activity
What are the side effects of lithium?
LMNOP Movement-tremor Nephrogenic DI HypOthyroidism Pregnancy problems--Ebsteins anomaly--malformed tricuspid valve
What diuretics are CI with an AKI and why?
K-sparing diuretics–because with an AKI volume overload, hyperkalemia, metabolic acidosis, hypocalcemia , and hyperphosphatemia can all occur and K sparing diuretics can cause hyperkalemia and cause metabolic acidosis to worsen
What is efficacy of a drug
Maximal effect a drug can produce
What is associated with a rapid onset of severe pain and profound visual loss with “halos around lights.” The eye appears red with a steamy cornea and dilated pupil, and feels hard to palpation and what is used for tx and MOA?
Angle-closure glaucoma
Acetazolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitors indicated for the treatment of acute episodes of angle-closure glaucoma.
Acetazolamide decreases the production of aqueous humor.
What drug would be useful in a patient with hypokalemia and ankle edema.
K-sparing diuretic
What is a non steroidal competitive inhibitor at androgen receptors and used for prostate carcinoma?
Flutamide
What antimetabolite is a Pyrimidine analog and inhibits DNA polymerase and is used for AML and lymphomas?
Cytarabine–Causes panCYTopenia
What class of drugs can cause all degrees of AV heart block?
B-blockers
What muscle relaxant has anticholinergic side effects?
Cyclobenzaprine
