What is a map?
A map is a graphic representation of a portion of an Earth’s surface drawn to scale, as seen from above.
What are the basic colors on a military map, and what do they represent?
- Red- Cultural (man-made) features
- Black- man-made objects
- Blue- hydrography or water features
- Green- vegetation
- Brown- contour, elevation, and relief

Lower left margin
What are contour lines?
Lines on the ground connected to equal elevation, They represent high and low ground elevations
What are the 3 types of contour lines?

- Intermediate
- Supplementary
