What is command?
Command is the authority a person in the military service lawfully exercises over subordinates by virtual of rank and assignment or position.
What is a commander?
A commander is a commission or a warrant officer who, by virtue of grade and assignment, exercises primary command authority over a military organization or prescribed territorial area that under pertinent official directives is recognized as a “command”.
Who is the only civilian that can exercise command?
The president of the United States as commander in chief
What are the 2 key elements of command?

Obedient and disciplined performance
How do professionally competent leaders develop respect for their authority?

- Properly training their soldiers and ensuring that both the soldiers and equipment are in the proper state of readiness.
- Giving troops constructive information on the needs and purpose of the military discipline.
Can members of a foreign military service exercise command of US Army soldiers?
No, But they are able to exercise operational/ tactical control but only when authorized by the President of the United States.
What is “Chain of Command”?
The orders of commanders from superior to subordinate through which orders are transmitted.
What is the purpose of an open door policy?
To allow members of the command to present facts, concerns, and problems of a personal or professional nature, or other issues that the soldier has been unable to resolve to the commander.
What are the staff and technical channels used for?
Sending reports, information, or instructions not involving variations from command pricing and directives
What is emergency command?
When the senior officer, WO, cadet, NCO, specialist, or private among the troops at the scene of an emergency assume temporary command and control of the soldier’s present.
