How does the F-L width compare to the width of the M-D?
The Facial-Lingual Width is greater than the Mesial-Distal Width, and the root length is greater than the crown length.
Weird note, but the lingual length of the crown is LONGER than the labial length of the crown!
The incisal ridge angles from
F-L Line
Pulp Canals- Typically 1 canal/1 foramen, but can have 2 canals and 1 foramen, or 2 canals and 2 foramen.
Traits
Generally similar to the mandibular central incisor, but it is SLIGHTLY LARGER than the mandibular central incisor in all dimensions (NOT THE CASE IN THE MAXILLARY ARCH)
Distal Side of Crown is more convex
Crown is tilted distally on the root- Distal Twist to follow the curvature of the arch
Distoincial angle is more rounded!
Proximal incisal angles are not at the same exact level– as we saw on central incisors- they’re both at the incisal third- here it is different. (Same location, but I’d assume the distal HOC is more cervical!)
Cingulum is displaced to the distal
Distal half of incisal edge is rounded and bent lingually (DISTAL TWIST)
Mesial hoc

distal hoc
Incisal third

cervical third
labial
cervical third
Fun Facts:
Poorly defined lingual fossa, also have root depressions on both sides- similar to that of the mandibular central, curvature of the CEJ on mesial is more pronounced- extending 25% of crown length!
What side of the maxillary lateral incisor has a root depression?
How to tell a mandibular central and mandibular lateral apart?
Look at the cingulum how its displaced towards the distal, and notice the distal lingual twist on the distoincisal angle area on the lateral incisor!
