Management of Risk, Decision Analysis Flashcards
What does Decision Analysis assume with respect to Clinical Decision Making?
- Assumes the decision process is logical & rational
- Assumes a rational decision maker will choose the option to maximise utility
An evidence based decision is formed based off of input from 4 sites: what are they?
- Research evidence
- Clinical judgement
- Patient preferences
- Available resources
What does a Square node in a Decision tree represent?
Decision node - represents choice between actions
What does a Circle node in a Decision tree represent?
Change node - represents uncertainty / outcomes for decisions
Give 2 examples of Utility measures which can be used in Decision Making
EQ-5D
QALY
What are the 5 components of the EQ-5D?
- Mobility
- Looking after myself
- Doing usual activities
- Having pain or discomfort
- Feeling worried / sad / unhappy
What are the benefits of Decision Analysis?
- All assumptions in a decision are explicit
- Allows examination of decision making process
- Integrates research into decision making process
- Insight gained during process > generated numbers
- Versatile: used to individual and population based decisions
What are the limitations of Decision Analysis?
- Data for probability may not exist
- Probability are subject to bias
- Individuals may be asked to rate a state of health they have not experienced
- Different techniques will result in different numbers
- Process is reductionist
