Mammalian tissue Flashcards
What is epithelial tissue
Lining tissue usually found in ducts and glands
Name the four types of tissue in humans
Connective
Nervous
Epithelial
Muscle
Describe columnar epithelial cells and where you’d find them in the body
Found in the windpipe, they usually have cilia attached to them and are long cuboidal shapes
Describe cuboidal epithelial cells and where you’d find them in the body
Cube shaped and found in the small intestines
Describe squamous epithelial cells and where you’d find them in the body
Thin and attached to a back membrane. Found in the alveoli walls
Describe the structure and function of skeletal muscle
Attached to bones and moves the skeleton. They tire easily and are voluntarily moved.
Name the types of tissue in humans
Epithelial
Nervous
Muscle
Connective
Describe the structure and the function of skeletal muscle cells
Attached to bones, you choose to make them contract so they are voluntary muscles. These muscles tire easily and are striped.
Describe the structure and the function of cardiac muscle cells
Is only found in the heart and never tires. The cells are striped but not long and fibrous
Describe the structure and function of smooth muscle
Individual spindle-shaped cells that contract rhythmically but not powerfully. They are unstriped and are involuntary muscles
What is areolar tissue
Connects organs and tissue together
What are tendons
Connect muscles to bones
What are ligaments
Connect bones to bones
What is adipose tissue
Fatty tissue that protects organs
