  • increase effects of warfarin - refer
  • antiretrovirals for HIV
  • antacids - Al, Ca, Mg decreases abosporption

A

QT drugs
antacids
incrased TSH levels with concomitant use of levothyroxin

A

antiretrovirals for HIV
rifampcin
and same as proguanil

What are counselling points you’d give a pt on antimalarials?

A
  1. use DEET, with stronger formulation providing longer duration of protection
  2. use of mosquito bed nets
  3. long sleeves, trousers
  4. Areas with non-flowing stagnant water are likely have numbers of mosquitos

What are the time limits you should tell pts to look out for if they get ill and should seek medical attention?

A

if they fall illl within a year

esp 3 months after coming back from malarial region

What symptoms are these?

A

flu-like symptoms, mainly fever

What is malaria prophylaxis advice?

A
  1. keep hydrated
  2. sun protection
  3. avoid unknown food sources to prevent travellers diarrhoea
  4. during flights take steps to minimise DVT - leg exercises and wear compression stockings
