Makeup Exam Flashcards
(Evening & Special Occasion)
What do you need to ask your client before application? Why are these questions important?
- Client preference
- Lighting of the occasion
- Time of year of the occasion
- Occasion itself - wedding, graduation, evening?
- What will you be wearing? What will your hair look like? Are you going to be wearing any accessories?
These questions are important to understand the details of the occasion and visualize what makeup plan you’re going to be doing.
(Evening & special occasion) What do you need to observe about your client before the application? Why are these questions important?
- Approximate age
- Complexion
- Eye colour
Observation is key when creating a makeup look, colours and textures play a key role in what products you’re going to choose.
Lighting for evening & special occasion makeup:
Usually dimly lit or lit by candlelight. This lighting can cause loss of colour and definition.
List some application guidelines for evening and special occasion:
Complexion: medium to full coverage
Contour/bronzer: to sculpt the face
Illuminator/highlighter: to enhance features and skin
Use richer/deeper colours
More definition
Fuller lashes or false eyelashes
Emphasise eyes: smokey eye with a nude lip or bold lip with a lightly defined eye
How would a special occasion application for a day event differ than an evening event application?
Complexion would be more day appropriate, less heavy with eyes and lip being the same, whereas night/evening makeup would be more full coverage/long wearing to last throughout the night, suitable to lighting and more shimmers/metallics.

Why is contour and highlighting important in photography?
It is customizable for look, adds 3rd dimension back into the photo, helps the skin not look as dull
What will happen to eyebrows in a photo if they’re not evenly filled in?
You may see half a brow since the brows are sparse on the ends, hair also reflects light so it’s important to have them filled in.
