Main Dishes Flashcards
What is the chemical formula for glucose?
C6H12O6
What is the difference between a product and a reactant?
A reactant is what goes into the equation a product is the outcome of the reactant.
Where do the oxygen atoms come from that become part of the glucose molecule in photosynthesis?
The oxygen atoms come from the 6CO2 (carbon dioxide) and H2O (water)
Where do the hydrogen atoms in glucose come from?
The hydrogen atoms in the glucose come from H2O (Water)
In which type of cell do both biochemical reactions occur?
Plant cell
In which specific organelles do these reactions occur?
The mitochondria and chloroplasts
What is the function of ATP in the cell?
to store energy
What is the relationship between cellular respiration and photosynthesis regarding reactants and products?
The products of cellular respiration are the reactants of photosynthesis, vice versa though light and energy don’t go through with this.
What are ALL THE PRODUCTS and the AMOUNTS of each resulting from cellular respiration?
Carbon dioxide 6CO2, Water 6H2O and energy
What is the energy source for photosynthesis?
The sun
Describe ATP and ADP.
ATP has three phosphate groups and ADP has two phosphate groups.
ATP is an energy molecule, and ADP is created from ATP if you take off one of the three phosphate groups.
What type of organism makes its own food? Example.
Autotrophs, example is a flower (Plants)
What type of organism must consume food? Example.
Heterotrophs, humans
Why do plant cells have both chloroplasts and mitochondria? List what the organelles do specifically.
The chloroplasts perform photosynthesis for glucose and the mitochondria performs cellular respiration for energy.
Why did the BTB change from blue to yellow if the elodea was placed in the dark?
Because plants perform cellular respiration to get energy.
