Magnetism Flashcards
Magnetic Poles
•name the 2
• where are they located
Magnetic Poles
•North Pole
•South Pole
Poles are located near the ends of magnets
What is magnet force?
•The force of attraction or the force of repulsion between two magnets.
Name 3 magnetic and non magnetic materials
•Materials that can be attracted to magnets.
–Metal paper clips
–Nails
–Screws
Non- Magnetic Materials
–Plastics
–Pieces of wood
–Pieces of paper
What metals are attracted to magnets?
The only metals that are magnetic are iron, cobalt, nickel and some of their alloys.
Two points in magnetic fields?
•The region around a magnet in which the magnetic force can be detected.
As you move away from a magnet, the magnetism of the magnet gets weaker and weaker.
4 points on the compass
- The needle in a compass is itself a magnet.
- The pointed end of the needle is the north pole and the other end is the south pole .
- The pointed end (north pole) of the compass needle is attracted to the Earth’s magnetic south pole.
What are the two shapes of magnets?
- Bar Magnets
* Horseshoe Magnet
