Magnesium Sulfate Class
Elecrtolyte, Antidysrhythmic, Anticonvulsant, CNS depressant
Magnesium Sulfate MOA
Natural calcium-channel blocker, deficiencies can cause myocardial deficiencies leading to ventricular tachyrhythmias
Blocks acetylcholine at neuromuscular junctions, inhibiting neuron transmission creating anticonvulsant properties
Magnesium Sulfate Indications (3)
Suspected pre-eclampsia and eclampsia
Torsades de Pointes
Respiratory distress
Magnesium Sulfate Contraindication
Myasthenia gravis
Magnesium Sulfate Adult Pre-eclampsia/Eclampsia Dose
2.5g IM x 2 OR 5g in 50-100mL over 10min IVPB

D (harmful to fetus)
