Machine - Lecture 1 Flashcards
What are the 3 major pressure units (PSI)?
- PSI, PSIg, PSIa
What is PSI?
Pounds per square inch
What is PSIg?
Pounds per square inch gauge.
What is PSIa?
Pounds per square inch absolute.
PSIg is the difference between which two pressures?
measured pressure and surrounding atmospheric pressure
PSIa is based on the reference point of what?
zero pressure for a perfect vacume.
PSIg + atmospheric pressure =
PSIa

Most common cylinder?
E
3 less common gasses that are provided in cylinders
- helium 2. heliox 3. carbon dioxide.
These 3 common gasses can hook up to the machine at which outlet?
common gas outlet
Valve stem?
located on superior portion of cylinder.
Valve outlet?
gas outlet port
index holes?
connector ports locking cylinder to pins.
Cylinder valve
portion superior to gas tank.
Yoke
bracket on back of machine
index pins?
(on anesth machine) connect to index holes.
T handle?
(on anesth machine) clamps on cylinder. Locking it in place. Handle.
PISS acronym
Pin Index Safety System
What is the PISS?
Method of ensuring the index pins match up to a speecific tank. Safety mechanism.
Installing an E cylinder (steps)
- place gasket over yoke inlet. 2. align holes in the cylinder valve with pins on yoke. 3 push cylinder forward and into yoke. 4. rotate yoke arm upwards and over until the arm engages with other side of yoke. 5. turn t-handle clockwise until it is tight and holds the cylinder firmly in place. 6. To open cylinder, turn the cylinder valve at least one to two turns counterclockwise using a cylinder wrench.
