implied consent
Consent that is inferred based on signs, actions, or conduct of the patient rather than oral communication (using words).
Ex. MA asks patient if he can obtain BP reading, the patient removes her arm from jacket sleeve and extends it towards that MA.

Disclosing private facts without the consent of the individual or intrusion into a person’s personal life.
libel
published false statement that is damaging to a person’s reputation; a written defamation.
living will
Provides instructions about life sustaining medical treatment to be administered or withheld when the patient has a terminal condition.
Mandated reporting (who are mandated reporters and what types of Information that is required to report)
Who: teachers, medical providers, police/fire fighters/emt)
Types of information: child or elderly abuse, human trafficking, types of violence, certain diseases (ex. Hep B/ C, HIV, anything transmissible)
Medical durable power of attorney
-Similar to a living will but includes all healthcare decisions.
-Lasts as long as person is not able to make decisions.
-Can be used when the situation is not terminal.
(an appointed person who can make decisions when unable to make decisions)
Medical malpractice insurance
A type of professional liability insurance. Protects healthcare professionals from liability related to wrongful practices resulting in injury, expense, and property damage.
(also covers the cost of defending lawsuits)
