What have you been doing for it?
What is the overall idea of the neuromatrix theory of pain?
- pain is produced by output of a widely distributed neural network in the brain
- not purely by sensory input evoked by trauma, inflammation, or other pathology
What is the neuromatrix?
- combo of cortical mechanisms that produce pain when activated
- does not require sensory input to produce pain experiences
neuromatrix theory of pain: When is pain produced?
when the brain perceives that body tissue is in danger and action is required
What are the inputs that determine a pt’s experience of pain?
- cognitive
- sensory
- motivational
