Lymphatic System and functions of the cardiovascular system. Flashcards
What is the lymphatic system?
The lymphatic system is a drainage network that allows the body to remove waste and toxins.
What are the main parts of the lymphatic system?
Lymph - the fluid that contains the infection fighting leucocytes.
Lymph nodes - the bean shaped glands that monitor and cleanse the lymph as it passes through.
Lymphatic vessels - are the vessels that carry lymph away from the body tissues.
collecting ducts - lymphatic vessels dispose of lymph into these ducts and they transfer the lymph to the subclavian vein to put the liquid back into the bloodstream.
How does the cardiovascular system deliver oxygen and nutrients?
Exercise increases the demand for nutrients and gases and blood carries everything the body needs in the blood and the cardiovascular system is the method of transport. It also distributes hormones and heat.
How does the cardiovascular system remove waste?
Exercise increases the need for removal of waste as more is created. The CVS remove waste from the bodily tissues to the kidneys and liver and takes carbon dioxide from working tissues to the lungs for gaseous exchange.
How does the cardiovascular system control blood via thermoregulation?
If the body is too hot - the capillaries vasodialte.
If the body is too cold - the capillaries vasoconstrict.
How does the cardiovascular system fight infection?
Leucocytes are constantly being made within bone marrow and stored within the blood.
How does the cardiovascular system clot blood?
White blood cells and platelets clot over damaged vessels and this is continuously possible as blood is constantly flowing through the body.
