Lymphatic System Flashcards
What is interstitial fluid
It is the ultra filtrate of blood
What does hydrostatic pressure do
It pushes fluid into capillaries
What does blood colloid osmotic pressure do
It pulls fluid into capillaries
The fluid remains in the interstitial space passes into lymphatic capillaries as ?
Lymph
What are the 3 core functions of lymphatic vessels
Drains excess interstitial fluid (takes it back to the blood )
Transports dietary lipids
Carries out immune responses
Where are lymph vessels not found
A vascular tissue ,CNS ,Bone marrow
What do the mini valves in lymphatic vessels do
They allow fluid to enter when pressure outside the vessel increase but not in reverse
Do large vessels have mini valves
No they do not they have one way valves that assist with the return of lymph to general circulation
What are the main lymphatic trunks
Jugular Subclavian Bronchomediastinal Intestinal Lumbar
What is the mechanism of flow in the lymphatic circulation
Lymphatic capillaries ,lymphatic vessels ,lymph nodes ,lymph trunks ,Lymph ducts ,blood
What are the two lymph ducts
Right lymphatic and the thoracic
What are the primary lymphatic organs
Where stem cells divide and become immunocompetent they include red bone marrow and thymus
What are secondary organs
Sites where most immune responses occur
Includes spleen ,lymph ,nodules ,lymph nodes
What is the function of the thymus
Proliferation and maturation of T cells
What happens to mature T cells in the thymus
They leave the thymus via the blood stream and migrate to other lymphoid organs
Each lobe of the thymus has lobules ,what types of cells are found in the cortex of the lobules
Large number T cells , dendritic cells ,epithelial cells and macrophages
What do dendritic cells do
They assist in maturation of T cells
