Lymphadenitis
Inflammation and enlargement of lymph nodes, usually the result of infection
Lymphangitis
Inflammation of lymphatic vessels as a result of bacterial infection
Lymphedema
Swelling of tissues with lymph caused by obstruction or excision of lymphatic vessels
Lymphoma
Any neoplastic disease of lymphoid tissue
Sentinel Node
The first few lymph nodes in which a tumor drains and cancer cells can likely spread from a primary tumor
Thymitis
Inflammation of the thymus gland
Tonsils
Partially encapsulated lymphoid tissue located in the throat; named by location - palatine, lingual, pharyngeal (adenoids)
Thymus
Soft organ located behind the sternum, between the lungs; large in infants and shrinks after puberty; responsible for T-lymphocyte maturation
Spleen
Located in left upper abdomen; filters and destroys old/ineffective red blood cells; blood-forming organ early in life
