LVOs Flashcards
ILS critical area
The ILS Critical Area is an area of defined dimensions about the localiser and glide-path antennae where vehicles, including aircraft, are excluded during all ILS operations. The critical area is protected because the presence of vehicles within its boundaries will cause unacceptable disturbance to the ILS signal in space.
ILS sensitive area
The ILS sensitive area is an area extending beyond the critical area where the parking and/or movement of vehicles, including aircraft, are controlled to prevent the possibility of unacceptable interference to the ILS signal during ILS operations.
The sensitive area is protected to provide protection against interference caused by large moving objects outside the critical area but still normally within the airfield boundary.
Minimums:
CAT I
CAT II
CAT IIIa
CAT IIIb
CAT I: DH not lower than 200ft and with either a vis not less than 800m or RVR not less than 550m;
CAT Il: DH lower than 200ft but not lower than 100ft and RVR not less than 300m
CAT IIIa: DH lower than 100ft but not lower than 50ft and RVR not less than 200m
CAT IIIb: DH lower than 50ft or no DH and RVR less than 200m but not less than 75m
What config is approved for autoland?
CONF 3
CONF FULL
What is the min and max G/S angle approved for autoland?
-2.5° and -3.15°
When will LAND FMA appear?
Below 400ft
Once in LAND can crew operate the FCU?
No action on the FCU will disengage LAND mode
Which system generates the landing capability displayed on the FMA?
Each FMGC computes its own autoland capability
If an approach is fail-operational what indication will be shown?
CAT3 DUAL
If an approach is fail-passive what indication will be shown?
CAT3 SINGLE
CAT2
What is the indication that a landing capability downgrade has occurred?
Audible triple click
“Tut tut tut”
If you receive an AMBER caution between alert height and 1000ft RA, what action must you take?
GO AROUND
What is alert height?
100ft RA
Below this height FMCG freezes the landing capability
In the event of a failure below this height, the flare , touchdown and roll out may be accomplished using the remaining system.
What indications for an autopilot failed below alert height?
None
When does FLARE mode engage during autoland?
Been 40ft and 50ft
FMA sequence for autoland?
LAND
FLARE
IDLE
RETARD
ROLLOUT
LVTO considerations
- Captain must perform LVTO below 400m RVR
- For an LVTO below 400m RVR, the “Take-off minima” table should be used
- For an LVTO below 150m RVR, but not less than 125m the following most also apply:
Crew must be trained (part D) High intensity runway centre line lights spaced 15m or less apart and high intensity edge lights spaces at 60m or less apart 90 m visual segment available from the FD at the start of TO (now 7 lights apparently) The required RVR value is achievable for all relevant RVR reporting points
When must airports ensure LVOs are implemented?
Departure ops RVR less than 800m
Cloud ceiling 200ft or less
Do CAT2 approaches require a lateral visual element for “visual”?
Yes
Do CAT3 approaches require a lateral visual element for “visual”?
No
What indicates 900m to go?
Alternative red and white lights
What indicates 300m to go?
Solid red lights
