Laws Flashcards
What are the 5 normal law protections?
Load factor
Pitch attitude
High AoA (low speed)
High speed
Bank angle
What protection do you have in alternate law (with protections)?
Load factor
High speed
Low speed stability
What protection do you have in alternate law (without protections)?
Load factor
Max roll rate in normal law
15°/second
What are the 5 flight control laws?
Normal law
Alternate law (with protection)
Alternate law (without protection)
Direct law
Mechanical backup
Pitch attitude protection in CONFIG 0,1,2,3?
30° nose up
Progressively reduced to 25° at low speed
15° nose down
Pitch attitude protection in CONFIG FULL
25° nose up
Progressively reduced to 20° at low speed
15° nose down
At what attitude will the FDs disappear?
what attitude will they reappear?
Disappear 25° nose up 13° nose down
Reappear 22° nose up 10° nose down
How can you tell if you’re in alternate law?
Amber crosses at attitude and bank angle limits
ECAM message ALTN LAW
How can you tell if you’re in direct law?
“USE MAN PITCH TRIM” in AMBER on the PFD
“F/CTL DIRECT LAW” in AMBER on the ECAM
How can you tell if you’re in mechanical backup?
“MAN PITCH TRIM ONLY” in RED on the PFD
What protection do you get in direct law?
NONE
Max bank angle
67°
33° in normal law flight path stability
When do you get Alpha Prot?
NORMAL LAW
Not with autopilot engaged!
What does alpha/speed lock do?
Inhibits slat retraction below a specific speed and above a corrected AoA limit
IF:
speed <148kts (until >154kts)
AoA >8.5° (Until <7.6°)
Note: not an “autoslat”
What indicates VSW in direct law?
Stall warning speed
Top of the RED AND BLACK blocks
What indicates VLS in direct law?
Lowest selectable speed
Top of AMBER strip
Priority take over button gives what indication?
Red arrow (blocked pilot’s side) pointing to priority pilot
CAPT (left) FO (right) in GREEN if input from the blocked pilot
How many seconds to hold the priority button to lock the opposite side stick?
40 seconds
If you lose all flight control computers what law are you in and what control surfaces are available?
Mechanical backup
THS & rudder (mechanically operated hyd valves)
Top of the solid RED on the speed tape in NORMAL LAW indicates…
Alpha Max
Top of the AMBER BLACKS on the speed tape in NORMAL LAW indicates…
Alpha prot
Top of the AMBER strip on the speed tape in NORMAL LAW indicates…
VLS
lowest selectable speed
What indicates VSW in alternate law?
Top of the RED & BLACK blocks
What indicates VLS in alternate law?
Top of the AMBER strip
In ALTERNATE LAW can the a/c fly into the BLACK and RED strip?
YES!
with low speed stability the a/c will apply nose dn input but sufficient back sidestick pressure will take a/c beyond critical AoA!
What is ALPHA FLOOR?
Protection that commands TOGA regardless of thrust lever position
Available from liftoff to 100 feet RA on app
