Lungs & Pleura Flashcards
Right Lung Impressions
Cardiac, Esophagus, Arch of Azygos, SVC
Left Lung Impressions
Thoracic Aorta, Aortic Arch, Cardiac
Superior Thoracic Aperature
T1, 1st Ribs, Manubrium
Pass thru: trachea, esophagus, phrenic and vagus, major vessels
Clinical relevance: Thoracic Outlet Syndrome- Compressed neurovascular supply
Inferior Thoracic Aperature
T12, Ribs 11/12, costal cart 7-10, xiphisternal junction
Closed by diaphragm
Pass thru: aorta, esophagus, IVC
Mediastinum
Heart, great vessels, other structures
Pleuritis
inflammation of pleura, pain with activity, audible friction
pleural effusion
fluid in pleural cavity
Chylo - lymph
Hemo - blood
Thoracentesis
Costodiaphragmatic recess
potential space between ribs 9 and 10
Trachea
Arise from cricoid cart (C6)
End at carina (T4/T5)
Primary Bronchi
C shaped cartilage
Right is wider, common choking
Bronchial arteries
supply blood to lung/trachea itself
arise from aorta
bronchial veins
return blood from bronchia arteries to:
Azygos, hemizygos, accessory hemiazygos
Innervation
Pulmonary Plexuses: mixed fibers from Vagus, cardiopulmonary splanchnic nns (sympathetic)
Sympathetics: brochodilation
parasympathetics: bronchoconstriction, gland secretion
