- Describe the traits of a good counselor. KNOW ALL 3
a. Sincerity
i. Interested in the counselee and his/her problems
b. Integrity
i. Quality of being a sound moral principle, upright, and honest
c. Be a good listener
i. Can be achieved only if the counselee does most of the talking and the counselor does most of the listening
- Identify the three counseling approaches (Directive, Non-Directive, & Eclectic). KNOW ALL THREE
a. Directive: Counselor-Centered, Diagnosis/treatment with counselor, traditional approach, not effective with emotions/strong attitudes.
b. Non-Directive: Counselee-Centered, free counselee from hindrances, gives counselee the opportunity to talk things out, counselor’s participation is minimal.
c. Eclectic: Combination of Directive and Non-Directive, Cooperation and Responsibility from both parties, FlexibleIF COUNSELEE IS PARTICIPATING 9/10 TIMES IS ECLECTIC
- EXPLAIN the aspects of the three counseling skills (watching and listening, responding, and guiding).
a. Watching/Listening: Eye Contact, posture, head nods, facial expressions
b. Responding: Questioning, Summarizing, Interpreting, Confronting
c. Guiding: Adds structure and organization. Helps subordinate to reach their own solution.
