- Describe the Air Force Equal Opportunity Program
a. DESIGN TO ENSURE IN SUPPORT OF MISSION READINESS FOR ALL AF PERSONNEL
- Describe the Air Force and National Guard policies on Equal Opportunity
a. It is AF policy to conduct affairs free from unlawful discrimination, and to provide equal opportunity and treatment for all members irrespective of:
i. Age
ii. Color
iii. National origin
iv. Race
v. Ethnic group
vi. Religion
vii. Gender
EXCEPT as prescribed by statute or policy (women in combat zones, e.g.)
- State the objective of the AF Equal Opportunity Program
a. To improve mission effectiveness by providing an environment in which service members are ensured an opportunity to rise to the highest level of responsibility possible in the military profession, dependent only on merit, fitness, and capability.
- Identify the five key services of the AF Equal Opportunity Program
a. MEO formal / informal complaint processing
b. Civilian EO informal complaint processing
c. Out and about assessments (process used to gather additional EO/human relations information that may impact installation personnel)
d. Human relations education (as specifically requested by commanders)
e. Quarterly statistical reporting
- State the difference between discrimination and prejudice
a. Prejudice: Injury or damage resulting from some judgment or action of another in disregard of one’s rights
i. Personal feeling or belief
ii. No law can change it
b. Discrimination: Any action that unlawfully or unjustly results in unequal treatment of persons or groups based on age, color, national origin, race, ethnic group, religion or sex, and for which distinctions aren’t supported by legal or rational considerations
i. Behavior or action
ii. Can be banned by law
- Identify ways a supervisor can diminish the impact of prejudice and discrimination in the Air Force
a. Review your supervisory role
i. Promote environment free from hostility/intimidation
ii. Encourage social interaction (don’t let it impact mission accomplishment)
iii. Take preventive or corrective action when required
iv. Actively support and enforce standards
b. Examine own behavior
i. Do you contribute to mission accomplishment?
ii. Do you offend or hurt others through your comments/actions?
iii. Are you occasionally misinterpreted as intentionally harmful?
iv. Do you appear to accept harassing behavior from others?
c. Develop an awareness of cues in the environment
i. Be aware of environmental behaviors that might be offensive to others
d. Identify behaviors which require preventive action
i. Customary/accepted behavior may be offensive to others and become unacceptable
ii. Take preventive measures before the situation deteriorates
