What are the different types of lesions?
Macule: flat and under 1cm
Patch: a macule over 1cm
Papule: solid raised lesion under 1cm
Plaque: a papule or group of papules over 1cm
Nodule: papule deeper in the dermis over 1cm
Tumor: large nodules over 2cm
Vesicle: elevate lesion with fluid under 1cm
Bulla: vesicle over 1cm
Pustules: superficial/elevated lesions containing pus under 1cm
Herpes simplex and herpes zoster
Herpes zoster is infection caused by chicken pox virus (shingles)
Cellulitis
Acute bacterial infection most common in lower extremities.
Impetigo
Superficial bacterial skin infection most frequently occurring on exposed parts of body.
Cutaneous abscesses
Basically a pimple
Folliculitis
Inflammation of hair follicles caused by infection chemical irritation or minor physical (shaving).
Cutaneous leishmaniasis
Parasitic disease caused by sandfly bite
Contact dermatitis
Skin inflammation caused by exposure to irritant such as poison oak.
Atopic dermatitis
Itchy rash
Tinea corporis
Skin infection to the body also known as ringworm.
Tinea pedia
Skin infection to the foot also known as athletes foot.
Tinea capitis
Skin infection to the scalp
Tinea cruris
Skin infection to the groin, also known as jock itch.
