MDx? Would you expect this liver to sink or float in water or fixative?
MDx: hepatic lipidosis
This liver will float
Pig liver
MDx? Disease name? Etiology? What other clinical sign would you expect to see in this pig?
MDx: Diffuse acute panlobular hepatic necrosis
Disease name: Heaptosis dietetica
Etiology: Vitamin E/selenium deficiency
Would also see icterus of the skin membranes, skin, abdominal fat, etc.
[MDx for picture here was focal fibrinous hepatitis and listed under this disease in ppt..so idk here it is]
Dog liver
MDx? Etiology?
MDx: hepatic cirrhosis or chronic hepatitis with nodular regeneration
Etiology: Unknown usually (this case was anticonvulsant therapy)
Cow liver
MDx? Etiology?
MDx: chronic eosinophilic granulomatous verminous hepatitis
Etiology: Fascioloides magna
[fluke migration through liver - color of tracks from excretion material]
Cow gallbladder
MDx? Etiology?
MDx: cholangitis
Etiology: Fascioloides hepatica
[liver migration through bile ducts]
Dog liver
What could have caused this?
Trauma - maybe hit by car - causes liver fractures
Results in severe bleeding into the abdominal cavity
Cow liver
MDx? What can cause this?
MDx: Diffuse chronic passive hepatic congestion
Caused by right sided CHF
[“cardia cirrhosis”]

MDx: Multifocal mild/moderate/chronic cholicystitis and cholangits with intralesional parasites
Etiology: Platynosomum fastosum
Liver from a rabbit
MDx? EtDx?
MDx: proliferative (hyperplastic) cholangitis/cholangiohepatitis
EtDx: coccidial hepatitis/Eimeria-induced hepatitis/cholangiohepatitis
