Definition
Partial sprain to Lisfranc ligament
Anatomy
-Lisfranc joint is where the mets join the rest of the foot at the cuneiform and cuboid bones
-Lisfranc ligament runs from medial cuneiform to 2nd metatarsal
Causes
-indirect trauma longitudinal force with plantarflexion
-Direct trauma, crush injury
Subjective findings
- Palpable tenderness to dorsal midfoot region
-pain is present in area for greater then 5 days
-swelling/bruising around midfoot
-aggravated forefoot weight bearing
What are some Clinical tests you would do?
-Piano key test
-Plantarflex + abduction of forefoot
-TMT squueze test
What are some radiology tests you would do?
-X-ray, AP, Oblique and Lateral
-Ultrasound, assess dorsal and plantar ligaments
DDX
-Ankle sprain
-Tarsal fracture
-Metatarsal base fracture
Prognosis
-Heals slowly
-Can be career ending
Treatment
Acute
-RICE
-Moon boot
-Refer to Podiatric surgeon
