It is used to diagnose acute pancreatitis

1) When does it rise?
2) When does it remain elevated?
1) LPS lvls rise 4 - 8 hrs
2) LPS lvls remains elevated for 8 - 14 days
What are the tissue sources of LPS?
1) Pancreas
2) Stomach
3) Small intestine
What is the principle employed for determination of LPS lvls?
Turbidimetric
What is the principle of rxn for determination of LPS lvls?
Triglyceride + H2O -> mono. + di-glycerides + fatty acids
substrate: 0.8% (w/v) olive oil in alcohol
What is the process (or steps) for determination of LPS lvls?
1) Label 3 test tubes: BLANK, STANDARD, UNKNOWN
2) Place 3,000 uL of LPS working rgnt
3) Pipette 100 uL sx
4) Incubate for 5 mins
5) Read and record A at 400 nm
What is the normal reference range of LPS lvls for adults?
10 - 150 U/L
What is the normal reference range of LPS lvls for old individuals (60 yo >)?
18 - 180 U/L
