Ligaments and Musculature of the Cx Spine Flashcards
What are the attachments of ligamentum nuchae?
O: Spinous process of C7
I: EOP, Posterior tubercle of atlas and spinous processes of C2-C6
What is the function of ligamentum nuchae?
Provides attachments for muscles
What are the attachments of the anterior Atlanto-occipital membrane?
O: Anterior Arch of Atlas
I: Anterior margins of foramen magnum
What are the attachments of the posterior Atlanto-occipital membrane?
O: posterior arch of atlas
I: posterior margins of the foramen magnum
What are the attachments of the anterior longitudinal ligament?
Attaches to anterior part of the bodies and discs of the vertebrae
Runs from C1 to pelvic surface of sacrum - widening as it descends
What are the attachments of the posterior longitudinal ligament?
Posterior parts of the bodies and discs (within the vertebral canal)
Runs from C2 to sacrum
What are the attachments of the ligamentum flavum?
Front of the lower border of the lamina above and the upper border of the lamina below
- running from C1 to L5
What are the attachments of the interspinous ligament?
between the adjacent vertebral spines from C1 to S4
What are the attachments of the transverse ligament of atlas?
Attaches to the medial parts of the C2 pedicles (passing behind the dens)
Anterior band passes to the foramen magnum
Another band passes downwards to the back of the body of the dens
What are the attachments of the Alar ligament?
From each side of the apex of dens to the medial side of the occipital condyles
What is the function of the ALL?
limits extension - reinforces the front of the AF
What is the function of the PLL?
Limits flexion - reinforces the back of the AF
What is the function of the Ligamentum Flavum?
Limits flexion
What is the function fo the interspinous ligament?
Limits flexion
What is the function of the Anterior atlanto-occipital membrane?
Limits extension
