LG3.12 Biomechanics – Dr. Roush Flashcards
What is closed packed position?
- There is maximal surface contact between two surfaces
- Attachements of ligaments are farthest apart under tension
- Capsular structures are taunt
- the joint is mechanically compressed and difficult to distract or separate.
What is loosed-packed position?
- ligamentous and capsular structures are slack
- joint surfaces may be distracted several millimeters
- Allow spin, roll, and slide
- May decrease joint friction
What direction of movement occurs in concave on convex?
Same direction
What is an example of concave on convex?
Femoral tibial joint
What direction of movement occurs in convex on concave motion?
Oposite directions
What is an example of concave on convex?
Gleno-humeral joint
What are Sellar joints?
have both concave and convex curvatures
What is osteokinematics?
- How bones move in relation to another
- Common terms are flexion, extension, abduction, adduction
What is anisotropic?
A material that has directional structure orientation with its mechanical properties different in different directions.
What is Arthokinematics?
The bone surfaces move in relation to one another
What defines rocking and rolling motion?
Each point on one surface makes contact with new points of other surfaces.
What defines gliding or sliding?
Same point on one surface makes contact with a new point of other surface.
What is spinning?
Pure rotation around the mechanical axis
What is swing?
movement other than pure swing
What is the two types of swing?
1) Cardinal swing
2) Arcuate swing
