Level 2 - What did I do Flashcards
Ethics - Potential tenderer asking for a drink
I was managing a tender
- a potential bidder rang me up and asked to take me out for a drink
- I politely declined as it could be seen as effecting my judgment in relation to the up and coming tender.
- It would also go against rule of conduct one where I should not be influenced
Client Care - Treveth holdings -
I set up regular meetings with the client to run him through the commercial aspect of the project
Silverwood - created a weekly drop down report so the client could see exactly where we are in relation to the agreed preconstruction programme .
Design economics - Cost estimate for Dyson
Produced a cost estimate at stage 1
information was limited
But I was able to utilise in house data that we had from past projects to complete the estimate.
I was also able to use the in house data that we had to come up with realistic %s for prelims , design and OH&P
I did this by benchmarking my estimate with similar projects we had undertaken with Dyson
Contract Practise
Carrying out interim assessments using an activity schedule at Silverwood School
- Would receive the application from the contractor prior to the assessment date
- I would review it and come up with initial queries and send them back to the contractor
- I would arrange a site visit to assess work done to date.
- Myself and contractor would then present our positions on the application and look to come to an agreed sum which is palatable to both parties.
- Agreeing compensation events - Silverwood
- MC would issue there CE quotation
I would look at the work done to date in relation to the CE
The forecasted work done and the resulting fee
I would then ask for any substantiation regarding any work done to date. This could include invoices , site visits. With forecasted work I would look to agree a system where we use rates that are in the priced submission or backup such as quotations for the works to be carried out. - the changes of the prices are assessed as to the effect of the
-Defined cost of work already done
-Forecast Defined cost of work yet to be done
resulting fee
Managed change control - BCC Schools
-organised a meeting with the project team inc contractor
- Confirmed that I will keep ownership of a change control tracker and will update this weekly
- I arranged a weekly meeting with the contractor to make sure that this tracker is up to date.
- it included description of change / submitted costs / whether its been agreed and instructed / possible future change
Agree Final account
- BCC Schools
-MC submits FA
-I review FA and assess my position and issue comments
- I make sure all instruction applied for have been instructed
- i ensured that any daywork applied for had been signed off and has the relevant substantiation.
- my comments form the basis of the meeting
- MC and myself come to an agreement on a figure that is palatable to both parties .
What was the difference between carrying out an interim assessment under JCT and NEC
NEC I used an activity schedule - only value it once activity was complete
NEC has different payment dates
JCT I used a contract sum analysis. I was able to value based upon % complete
Different payment timelines
Valuation date
7 days
Due Date
5 days
Payment notice
Payment notice - Pay less
Final date for payment ( 14 days after due date )
Construction Tech - Steel CLT analysis

- I produced a cost appraisal between steel and CLT
- I priced both options that were put forward . I highlighted possible Pros and cons of both options this included
- Programme benefits
- sustainability benefits
- Possible cost fluctuations or risks
Procurement and tendering
Zurich - compiled tender documentation
This included collating
- Project information - Drawing & Specs
- Contract amendments from client
- Droughting up a pricing document
- Finding a template and writing a form of tender
Negotiating package costs at silverwood
- MC issued there packages
- reviewed the package
- Carried out quants / rates check
- Check pricing was in line with latest designs
- assessed my position
- negotiated with MC to a position which was palatable to both parties.
Scoring tender submissions for exeter.
I scored the commerical element of the submission, this element equated to 30% this was split with 25% on there commercial workbook submission and 5% based on the explanation as to how they came up with their %s
