What is communication
imparting or exchanging of information either by speaking writing or using some other medium
What are the different ways to communicate
Oral - phone / meetings / presentations
Written - Letters / reports / drawings specifications
What are the advantages of written communication
Complex technical information can be communicated through drawings
it creates a record of information ( audit trail )
good way to formalise verbal agreements
what are the disadvantages of written communication
unclear if recipient have received the message
Language or tone might not be familiar
It is harder to ask questions
You will not know if the recipient has understood the message.

short and precise
easy to understand
well structured

a discussion to reach a comprimise or agreement.
What key things do you need to think about before entering into a negotiation
What level am I authorised to negotiate to.

the character of the person i am negotiating with and their level of authority.
Whats my negotiating style
depends on the situation , but I do try to be fair and collabarative while still trying to achieve the best outcome for the client

- my assessment drastically different to his
- i stayed objective and put forward my case
- i was fair and ethical , and took points from the other party that were relevant
- I was respectful during the negotiation
Give me an example when you negotiated effectively
I succesfully negotiated the final account on a school project for bristol city council.
I did this by assessing my position and issuing comments to the contractor
both myself and the contractor presented our commercial positions and agreed to settle at a certain figure which were palatable for both parties.
