Leukocytes Flashcards
What do myleoblasts create?
neutrophil eosinphil, basophil, monocyte
neutrophil
Most abundant + first responder
kill = engulf
short-lived (death forms pus)
circulate in blood and can move to tissue if needed
eosinphol
mainly eliminates parasites (releases chem)
rarely found in blood, but common in mucous membrane
basophil
NOT COMMON
initiate inflam. response by releasing histamine (regulates inflammations) and heparin (blood thinner)
circulate in blood
monocyte
Largest of 5
engulf + shares responabilities with neutrophil
slower to respond, but longer lasting
What can monocyre become?
macrophage, dendritic cell
What do macrophages do?
they are slower to respond, but better prepared
what do dendritic cells do?
identifies pathogen and sends signal to lymphatic system
Everything abt lymphoctes
make antibodies & target specific
common in lymph system (slow + need dendritic cell’s help)
B-cell –> antibody secreting cell
T-cell - mediate B-cell activity
destroys virus infected body
