- Poor people can’t afford to buy food.
- They think the only option is to steal.
- They can be arrested for this.
What would Christians think about poverty being a reason for crime?
- Stealing is wrong no matter what.
- But people should do what they can to make sure nobody finds themselves in the position of having to steal food.
How can upbringing lead to people comitting crimes?
- Households where crime is a part of life.
- People may have been neglected during child-hood.
What would Christians say about upbringing being a reason for crime?
- Parents should teach their children the right way to behave through their words/ actions.
How can mental illness lead to someone comitting crimes?
Give an example…
Someone with anger management problems may be quite violent.
What would Christians say about mental illness being a reason for crime?
- Treating the illness is the most loving and compassionate way of dealing with this issue.
How can addiction lead people to comitt crimes?
- Taking illegal drugs in itself is a criminal act.
- Depending on these drugs may lead you to comitt further crimes in order to buy them ie. stealing money.
- Legal drugs, alcohol, can lead to –> violence, rape and drunk- driving.
What would Christians say about addiction being a reason for crime?
- They are against the use of illegal drugs and support rehabilitation to defeat addiction.
- Most Christians believe alcohol is okay in moderation.
How can greed lead people to comitt crimes?
- Some people may want posessions they can’t afford.
- So they steal to get them!
How would Christians respond to greed being a reason for crime?
- Ten Commandments forbid envy and envy often causes greed.
How can hate lead people to comitt crimes?
- Hate can lead to violenc/ agression.
How would Christians respond to hate being a reason for crime?
- Jesus taught Christians to love everybody, including their enemies.
How can opposition to an unjust law lead people to comitt crimes?
- They may not follow laws that are based on inequality or deny basic human rights
- They do this to protest against the law
How would Christians respond to opposition to an unjust law being a reason for crime?
- Some Christians may agress with this but only if no violence is involved and nobody gets hurt.
