Study by Rusbult et al. (2000) on positive illusions (companionate love). Participants that were in either a lower or higher committed relationship were divided over a threat and control condition. The threat condition presented the participants with the following “Research shows that many relationships end…”
Results: participants in high commitment and threat condition indicated many more positive features about their own relationship vs. other relationships than those in the control condition, or in comparison to participants that were lesser committed (threat and control condition barely made a difference). High commitment participants in the threat conditions also reported more negative features of other relationships vs. their own relationship.
