Q

Second study by Rosenhan on implicit personality theory: Impostor experiment. Employees were told that there were 3 pseudopatients that had to be identified whilst in fact, there were no pseudopatients

A

Results: 21% of patients were determined to be pseudopatients by staff members (demonstrates that our first impressions are not always accurate)

Q

Study by Rosenhan (1973) to demonstrate implicit personality theory: 8 healthy researchers were sent to asylum. The question was if employees would recognise the researchers were not real patients.

A

Results: 7 out of 8 researchers were diagnosed with shizophrenia in remission (as their behaviour was in line with the characteristics of schizophrenia)

Q

Telephone experiment by Snyder et al. (1977) to demonstrate self-fulfilling prophecy: Men would receive a picture with either an attractive or unattractive woman. Independent raters (did not know woman attractive or unattractive, had to evaluate the woman on the phone.

A

Results: men with the picture of the attractive woman were nicer to her, causing her to be nicer in return and to be rated as warmer and more confident by the independent raters. The men in turn had a more positive impression of the woman if they thought she was attractive.
