Study by Stillwell and Baumeister (1997) on the magnitude gap: participants had to read a text about an ambiguous offence, and afterward take the perspective of the offender or the victim. They then had to write the story again in the perspective of the offender or the victim.

Results: those that were assigned the offender remembered not so bad circumstances, whilst victims better remembered negative outcomes. Offenders would also add (self-added) much more extenuating outcomes than victims, who self-aded more negative outcomes.
