2
Q

what is segregation and why important

A

most species separate themselves based on type (sex, age, etc), usually to minimize risk, be more efficient in survival, and maximize life

Q

what is the predation risk hypothesis

A

Females select safer areas even if it means they will get less food (also because they are more vulnerable than men usually and they often have offspring with them)
Males want the best feeding area even if it is riskier bc then they will get better resources. They want to be bigger and better fighters

Q

what is the forage selection/sexual dimorphism-body size hypothesis

A

allometric differences in body size, bite size, and digestion efficiency lead to males and females having different foraging behaviors/efficiency so they need to go to different foods

15
Q

what is the activity budget hypothesis

A

larger males cannot forage with smaller females due to differences in activity budgets resulting from body size related differences in digestive physiology

groups need to do the same thing to be safe

Q

what is the social factors hypothesis

A

Males and females differ in ontogenetic behavior and have different demands/requirements
Sticking with gender to develop behaviors, play, practice, social learning
