o Clear fluids + dairy, all fruit and vegetable juices
• Thickened fluids
o All fluids thickened to appropriate consistency (nectar, honey, or pudding)
o Speaking issues people
• Pureed
o Foods blended with liquid
• Mechanically soft diet
o Easily chewed
o Diced or finely ground food
Soft or low residue
o Low residue (low fiber)
o Easily digestible
DAT
o Diet as tolerated
o Often progress to this
o Clear fluids to regular food as tolerated
Low sodium
4 g or less
high blood pressure
• Low cholesterol
o <200mg mg/day
• Diabetic
attention to glycemic index (blood sugar levels
Assisting with Oral Feeds
o Never lying down; do not hyperextend neck
o 75 to 90 degrees or preferably a chair
• Pt should remain upright ~ 30 minutes
