Commonly used agents
No rinse cleaners soap skin cream powder deodorant antiperspirant
Preferred over soaps for the elderly. Reduce risk of skin deterioration
Some contain antibacterial agents. Should not be perfumed
Provides a film on skin, prevents evaporation

Types of Baths
o Complete or total – pt. is dependent for care
o Partial – areas prone to odour and areas not easily reached by the pt
o Tub – to rinse entire body
o Shower- shower chairs may be used
o Bag bath – disposable package
Cleaning Order
Face – use clean corners of cloth for eyes
Arms – from fingers to axilla (promote blood flow)
Hands – soak if possible
Chest – ensure to lift & wash under breasts
Abdomen – skinfolds
Legs – wash with upward strokes toward the chest
Feet – soak if possible
Back – massage while you wash/dry
Peri-care – be thorough & respectful
