Adam and Eve had a limited knowledge of what was right and wrong
What do the names Adam and Eve each mean?
Adam - man, mankind, ruddy, soil, (red) land
Eve - life giver
What are the three commandments given to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, and why are they given conflicting commandments?
- Multiply and replenish the earth
- Do not eat of the tree of life
- Subdue the earth, have dominion
So that they would be forced to make a choice of their own and exercise their agency
Know the five elements necessary for Agency. Did Adam and Eve exercise Agency in the Garden?
- Law/commandments
- Opposition
- Knowledge of good and evil
- Choice
- Consequences
They could not, because they had no knowledge of good and evil
Know the consequences of the Fall for Satan, Eve, and Adam and what they mean.
Satan - cursed, enmity between man and Satan, Jesus shall have power over him
Eve - Childbirth will be painful and sorrowful,
Adam - Ground is cursed, hard work to provide, death
What is the difference between a “sin” and a “transgression” according to Elder Oaks?
Transgression - an exercise of mortal agency that results in the breaking of a law, a planned offense, a formality
What are the three cautions Jackson gives us about our knowledge of Adam and Eve and the Fall?
