Lecture 1 Flashcards
Disciple-Scholar
One who will take both discipleship and scholarship seriously, thus consecrating their mind to the Lord in a form of worship
What is the message of the parable of the Pearl of Great Price?
The message is that when one has found something of such great worth as the kingdom of heaven, one ought to be willing to give up everything to obtain it
How does the Pearl of Great Price reflect the message of Moses 1:39?
The PofGP is one of the tools by which the Father will bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. It makes clear the Fall and the Plan.
Matt. 22:37-38
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment
The key word here is mind.
One way to worship God with our minds is to take a scholarly, serious approach to studying about Him
Matt. 13:45-46
45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:
46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
When Franklin D Richards gave the PofGP its title, this is where the reference came from.
The idea is that the truths contained in the book are so great, that we should be willing to give up anything to know them, and that they are very valuable
Moses 1:39
For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.
This is the most clear and concise statement we have of the Father’s purpose.
