Lecture 8 Flashcards
Active site
The region of an enzyme were substrate molecules bind and undergo chemical reaction
Allosteric site
Regulation of a protein by binding effect or molecule the site other than the proteins active site
Anabolic pathway
Controlled series of reactions in which smaller lower energy less complex molecules are built up into larger hiring a G and more complex molecules
Catabolic pathway
Metabolic pathways that breakdown molecules into smaller units that are either oxidize to release energy or used another anabolic reactions
Catalyst
A substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction without itself undergoing any permanent chemical change
Competitive inhibitor
A form of enzyme inhibition for binding of the inhibitor to the active site on the enzyme prevents binding of the substrate and vice versa
Energy
The strength and vitality required for sustained physical or mental activity
Entropy
Thermodynamic quantity representing the unavailability of the systems thermal energy for conversion into mechanic work
Exergonic reactions
A reaction to loses energy during the process of the reaction
Feedback inhibition
An enzyme inhibitor is a molecule that binds to an enzyme and decrease activity
First law of thermodynamics
The total energy of an isolated system is constant
Kinetic energy
The energy that he possesses due to its motion
Metabolism
I’ll chemical reactions involve in maintaining the living state of sales and the organism
Noncompetitive inhibitor
Binds to the enzyme away from the active site
Potential energy
The energy that an object has due to its position in a force field
