What is ADVOCATE?

A

A: Amount of time the witness had the suspect under observation.
D: Distance between witness and suspect during observation
V: Visibility conditions
O: Obstructions to the observation
K: Whether the suspect is known to the witness
A: Any particular reason they can remember the suspect
T: Amount of time elapsed since the event
E: Errors in the description

What is the procedure for identifying suspects?

A
  • You must record accurately and keep the first description of a suspect from and witness
  • this must be made and kept in a form which is legible and can be produced in court
  • this must be recorded before any identification procedure can take place
  • this must be given to the solicitor acting for the suspect
